Amirab : Roda's plans to empower women

Amirab provides high-quality and modest fashionable wear, that allows Muslim women to express both their identity and individuality through clothing. Roda had the idea for Amirab when she noticed a gap in the hijab market which didn’t cater for luxury hijabs for professional Muslim women.

“The Hive was the catalyst I needed to get started, they supported me with mentoring and training whilst also providing me with a place to work and base my business.” Since starting up Amirab has gone from strength to strength, gaining attention from local and international news outlets, whilst trading internationally from their boutique store, located in Nairobi, Kenya.

Super-duo shortlisted for Natwest "Young Entrepereneurs of The Year" Award

Founders and NTU students Sean and Charlotte came up with Super U, an eco-friendly and sustainable brand that provides easy to consume and affordable blends of super-foods, which contain special health benefits. “Through The Hive we had the opportunity to pitch our business idea to investors, in which we were successful! It was such an eye-opening experience, even though it was fairly nerve-wracking, but we were thrilled to know that other people believed in our business!”

Since, they have launched three powdered superfood blends, each possessing unique ingredients with specific health perks. In the long term Super U want to expand their product range further and build a strong foundation of ambassadors on social media. Aiming to be recognised as a successful and trusted health, wellness and fitness brand within the UK and around the world.

WAC success with The Hive

WAC was supported by The Hive, attending the HeadStart programme and receiving a start-up grant. The founder, Georgina, also had mentoring from one of The Hive’s team of experts.

Thanks to The Hive’s support, Georgina was successful in getting to the final of the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards in 2018. Following this, she has been able to secure investment for the business and is now part of NTU’s Big House Accelerator programme. After success of the Santander competition, Georgina is supported by Warwick Hill, Senior MD of Microsoft Europe and leader of the Microsoft UK Start-up Accelerator programme, whom she met while taking part in the Santander Entrepreneurship programme.

“Not only did The Hive provide support to build my tiny idea into a growing company, they also helped me… a clueless entrepreneur… grow into a full-blown company owner. The business advisors were extremely helpful.”
